This eurythmic exercise is an attempt to create an abstract, constructivist artifact, a 1:20 model with the proportions of a terraced house, two partition walls, along with structural elements and façade panels. It will be for any individual to approach and construct their own iteration of this object, to become the owner of the domain, and appreciate the attenuation of light which is created. The aim of this exercise for me is to take a step back further, to become the one who constructs those that are to be constructed; that the technical qualities of these building elements can be tested as much as possible, and can be placed together to create a domain, that would be as easily dissembled as reassembled. |
The model was drawn up for cutting on a CNC router, using plywood for the structural members and MDF for the thinner façade. The model requires no glue, using only grooves and slotted parts. Despite the thoroughness of the design phase, it is clear that iterations are still required, as is required with all design work, the initial design is never perfect. There are small discrepancies in the cutting that were not factored in but could be solved with another version.
To document this eurythmic exercise, I have put together a short film of my construction of the model, along with the internal view of three different iterations with light shining through (see slideshow), mimicking the sunlight. |
